Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage treats musculoskeletal issues and chronic tension, ideal for tight areas such as a stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness and sore shoulders.

This treatment begins with a lighter pressure in preparation to warm up the muscles and manipulate the soft tissues ready to target the inner layers of muscles and connective tissues using hands, knuckles, forearms and elbows.

By applying sustained pressure with slow, deep massage techniques, automatically stimulates the circulation, freeing up tension held in the muscles, easing symptoms of chronic aches and pains.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is the application of smooth heated stones used by the therapist to relax the body quicker than using massage strokes alone.
Basalt stones are professionally used during a hot stone massage, these volcanic stones have a rich iron content that retains heat. The weight and warmth of the stones felt on the skin immediately relaxes the body and eases muscles tension.

An optional application of cold marble stones can be included mid-way through the treatment, this causes a circuit of hot and cold which stimulates the circulation and reinvigorates the body.

Massage oil is used in conjunction with the stones throughout the treatment.

Reflexology

By manipulating and applying pressure to certain areas or points on the Feet ( Hands, Face or Ears) promotes homeostasis within the body, this technique is known as Reflexology.

Each part of the foot represents a specific Reflex point which mirrors a corresponding location of the body. For example the big toe represents the Head reflex area, so it may prove beneficial to apply reflexology to the big toe to ease a headache.

When specific techniques and pressure is applied to these reflex points it stimulates the functionality of all the systems within the body.
Areas of tenderness or sensitivity can be an indication for the Reflexologist to work these points a little longer in order to release the tension held in the body.

Reflexology is a non-intrusive treatment and is suitable for all ages.

Reflexology and Meridian Therapy

“ The concept of energy channels is the central point around which the practices of reflexology and acupuncture are based. Both function on the premises that vital energy is channelled through the body along specific pathways. In acupuncture, these energy lines are the meridians. In reflexology, as has been perceived to date, the energy channels are those of the zones popularised by Dr. W. Fitzgerald” Inge Dougans

Reflexology was founded from the ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It was developed first into what was known as zone therapy, recognising five defined sections on the feet, that when stimulated have a positive impact on the body. This practise was researched and developed into what we now treat as Reflexology.

With Inge Dougans Meridian Therapy, we concentrate on specific areas of the feet that will trigger a reaction along the identified Meridian Line. This causes an automatic response on the body with a profound effect to release the body’s own healing potential.
The Meridian pressure is an instant boost of energy to jump start the body and kick in a healing reaction.

This treatment is 10 - 15 minutes of Meridian Therapy followed by 45 minutes of reflexology.

Indian Head Massage

Rather than the traditional way of seated on a chair, we prefer to treat clients on the massage couch during an Indian Head massage. This enables a person to be fully relaxed and to get the most from the treatment.

An Indian Head Massage begins with the back, shoulders, neck, face and head. The back massage is optional, some people prefer to focus on the shoulders and neck prior to the face and head.

We use a blend of essential oils specific for each client, the aromatherapy oils are a beautiful addition to the treatment.
